Inspiring Mental Health Accounts on Instagram
Depression with its frequent symptoms of sadness, withdrawal and isolation can often make individuals who suffer from it feel lonely. One way to connect with others and possibly better understand your condition is to follow positive mental health social media sites, such as the following Instagram accounts.
Andy’s Man Club (https://www.instagram.com/ANDYSMANCLUBUK/) and #ItsOkayToTalk were established by Luke Ambler, a former Irish rugby player, with the goal of breaking down barriers that prevent males from discussing their feelings and/or seeking help for mental health issues, such as depression.
Beth Draws Things (https://www.instagram.com/bethdrawsthings/) features Beth Evans’ very relatable comics of “blobs,” who confront various aspects of mental health conditions and young adulthood.
HealthyPlace (https://www.instagram.com/healthyplace/) includes inspirational quotes and artwork, along with vlogs from individuals living with mental health challenges.
Introvert Doodles (https://www.instagram.com/introvertdoodles/), which are drawn by Maureen “Marzi” Wilson, depict life for the shy and introverted, along with those who have mental health conditions such as anxiety.
The Latest Kate (https://www.instagram.com/thelatestkate/) displays artist Kate Allan’s encouraging illustrations for individuals with anxiety and other mental health struggles, which in her own words, make “painful things…okay with bright colors and sparkles.”
The Sad Girls Club (https://www.instagram.com/sadgirlsclub/) was created as a community for girls experiencing mental health conditions with the goal of removing stigma, providing services to those who do not have access to therapy and/or treatment, and creating a judgment free space so they know they are not alone.
