When you contact George Mason University (GMU) Center for Psychological Services (CPS) during office hours, a staff member will spend approximately 15 to 20 minutes asking questions about the kinds of services you are seeking (i.e., therapy or assessment) and your current concerns. If it seems likely GMU CPS can provide services that are a good match, you will be quoted a waitlist time estimating how long until the next clinician is available. Evening appointments are offered for most services. GMU CPS service hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. GMU CPS is located at 10340 Democracy Lane, Suite 202 in Fairfax and is accessible by public transportation (via the Vienna Metro Station and CUE Bus).
GMU CPS treats a wide variety of concerns including, depression; anxiety; behavioral issues; school, relationship and family problems; trauma and stress-related difficulties; and specific phobias. It does not offer psychiatric services, including medication and prescriptions, but its providers can help obtain a medication consult in the community, and work with you and the prescribing physician or nurse practitioner to provide comprehensive care.
As an out-of-network provider, GMU CPS does not work directly with insurance companies. Payment is required in full at the time of service via cash, check or credit card for the low cost, sliding scale fees for assessment, testing and individual therapy. Many insurance policies offer substantial coverage for out-of-network providers, often covering 50 to 80% of services, and GMU CPS provides clients with an invoice that contains all of the information needed to request reimbursement from their insurance provider. In addition, individuals are welcome to apply to GMU CPS for a fee reduction based on demonstrated financial need.
