Make Your Own Mental Health Crisis Kit
When you have depression or another mental health condition, you often cannot predict when you will find yourself struggling. A Mental Health Crisis Kit is a collection of comforting items you can carry with you or have on hand for those situations. Suggestions to place in your own kit include:
- Earbuds or headphones to listen to music or simply cancel out noise
- A sketchbook or notebook for expressing your feelings
- Playing cards (Just shuffling them can be calming for some people)
- A fidget cube or spinner
- A favorite book
- A small can of Play-Doh, which can be an excellent stress reliever
- A coloring book and colored pencils
- A Calm Bottle or Glitter Jar, you can purchase one or make your own (http://www.instructables.com/id/Calm-Bottle-aka-Glitter-Jar/)
- Bubbles and/or a piece of bubble wrap
- Candy or gum
The times when you need some extra help can often be when self-care items are the hardest to find so assembling them ahead of time can be a very good idea. If you have any other suggestions for things to put in a Mental Health Crisis Kit, please forward them to plandnova@gmail.com. Thank you!
